The story
In the heart of Naples’ historic centre, on Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, Palazzo Petrucci Pizzeria brings a refined approach to Neapolitan pizza. Guided by pizzaiolo Davide Ruotolo, the kitchen produces pizzas that have earned a mention in the Michelin Guide — a rare distinction for a pizzeria — as well as a strong showing in 50 Top Pizza 2024 and a podium finish at the Campionato della Pizza 2024 in Campania.
The menu balances the classic and the contemporary. Alongside a spot-on Margherita (pomodoro bio, fiordilatte, pecorino, basilico) and a Bufalina del Vesuvio, you will find creations like the Diavola, where spicy salami meets orange zest and crusco pepper, or the Nerano, a summer staple with zucchini cream, provolone del monaco and crispy zucchini chips. The namesake Pizza Palazzo Petrucci is a calzone filled with ragù napoletano, provola and ricotta. For something fried, the Montanara and the Ricotta e cicoli deliver.
The setting is as considered as the food. Two outdoor spaces — the piazza at the foot of the obelisk and a terrace with cocktail bar — offer room to eat as the evening cools. Inside, the atmosphere is refined, a deliberate contrast to the bustling decumani outside.
Palazzo Petrucci Pizzeria is the historic-centre sibling of the Michelin-starred Palazzo Petrucci on Posillipo, part of the same family of restaurants that began in 2007. Here, the focus is squarely on the contemporary pizza, executed with precision and a sense of place.
