The story
In the heart of Norcia, the Bianconi family has been welcoming guests since 1850. Granaro del Monte 1850, described as the oldest restaurant in Umbria, is a place where history and hospitality are woven into every meal. The restaurant’s name references the ancient granary (granaro) of the building, a space that once stored the region’s harvest.
The menu is a direct expression of the family’s roots in the gastronomic traditions of Norcia, the Apennines, and Umbria. Many ingredients come from the family’s own Azienda Agricola Vallaccone, a 25-hectare organic farm set within 100 hectares of pristine woodland, co-owned with the Cinque family of Positano. Here, organic cereals and legumes – lentils and spelt among them – are grown, ensuring freshness and sustainability.
The Grand À La Carte Menu is the restaurant’s most complete offering, while seasonal "Guided Menus" provide curated journeys through local flavours. The wine list focuses on the finest wines of Umbria and the Central Apennines, complemented by a selection of Italian labels and draft beers, including Birra Nursia, brewed by the Benedictine Monks of Norcia.
Granaro del Monte’s commitment to quality ingredients and authentic Italian cooking has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition for good quality, good value cuisine. Whether dining in the historic rooms or on the outdoor terrace, the experience is grounded in the landscape and traditions of this corner of Italy.
