The story
At Osteria Il Principe e Il Pirata, the sea is a constant presence. The restaurant sits in località Punta Karace, with a terrace that opens onto the Mediterranean. The family behind it – Franca, Luciano, Marco, and Simone – speak of their work simply: “We, you and the sea.” Their hospitality is warm and unhurried, a reflection of the island itself.
The kitchen draws on the ancient traditions of Pantelleria, using ingredients that change with the seasons. The menu is a study in local produce: capers from Pantelleria, fish from the surrounding waters, ricotta, and herbs like mint and finocchietto. Dishes such as the fried panteschi ravioli stuffed with ricotta and mint, served with guanciale of black Nebrodi pig, and the traditional Pantescan couscous with fish and vegetables, show how the kitchen respects the past while keeping things fresh. The macco of fresh broad beans with aged tumma cheese and candied cherry tomatoes is another example of pure, grounded flavour.
The wine list is designed to complement the food, with a strong focus on the best labels from the island, alongside selections from other Italian regions and beyond.
The restaurant’s commitment to seasonal, ingredient-driven cooking has earned it a Michelin Recommended award. The guide highlights the quality of the produce and the skill with which it is handled, a verdict that matches the steady stream of returning diners.
Dining here means sitting down to a meal that feels both relaxed and precise. The staff are discreet and attentive, the view of the sea is a constant companion, and the food – from the grilled octopus with pumpkin and passito-glazed onion to the homemade pistachio mousse with Pantelleria passito jelly – is a genuine expression of this volcanic island. As the family says: “Accomodatevi e rilassatevi godendovi il mare.”
