The story

Casa Federici: Contemporary Campanian Michelin Dining in Piazza di Pandola, Montoro

Casa Federici

Casa Federici occupies an 18th-century palazzo on the historic street from which it takes its name, in the small frazione of Piazza di Pandola within the comune of Montoro. The restoration has preserved the building’s character—original arches and an ancient well remain visible, lending the dining room an elegance rooted in local history rather than polish alone.

This is the setting for Chef Francesco Cerrato’s cooking. His is a kitchen built on early experience with authoritative chefs during his hospitality studies, then refined into a personal style that balances deep knowledge of Campanian tradition with an inventive, technically assured approach. The result is contemporary Campanian cuisine that respects its origins while pushing forward.

The restaurant offers two distinct tasting paths. The “Sensazioni” menu explores synesthetic pleasure—playful contrasts of colour and texture, deconstructed and recomposed ingredients, studied cooking techniques that build layered, surprising flavours. The “Ricordi” menu is more personal: Chef Cerrato describes it as his time machine, evoking the atmosphere of a Sunday lunch at his grandmother’s house, translating that memory into a tasting experience built on comforting, familiar notes.

Casa Federici’s quality has been recognised by the prestigious Michelin Guide. In the 2026 edition, the guide mentions the restaurant as a “tappa gourmet” and praises its “creative proposals of notable effect and satisfaction.” The award is woven into the fabric of the house—it appears on the home page as a point of pride, not a gimmick.

The contemporary Campanian cooking here does not shout. It is precise, personal, and grounded in a specific sense of place: the arches of an old palazzo, the produce of the surrounding Irpinia countryside, and the steady hand of a chef who knows exactly what he wants to say.
