The story
Giacomo Verdelli spent 25 years alongside the celebrated Franco Colombani of Maleo before opening his own place in Pizzighettone. The result is Da Giacomo, a small restaurant that balances rusticity with contemporary design. Exposed brick walls painted using ancient techniques, solid wood tables, and designer chairs create a warm yet polished setting. Outside, a terrace sits under a thousand-year-old portico – a quiet spot for an aperitivo or dinner on a summer evening.
The cooking is described as “sapiente, gustosa e curata, fra tradizione e creatività” – knowledgeable, flavourful, and precise, moving between tradition and invention. The menu changes with the seasons and features dishes such as goose foie gras terrine, light marinated eel, veal head with “fasulin de l’oc” beans, red partridge salad, marubini pasta in three broths, Cremonese-style snails, risottos, and goose bottaggio. Each plate respects local ingredients while adding a personal touch.
Da Giacomo’s wine selection is a point of pride – bottles, glasses, and spirits are chosen with care. The Michelin guide highlights “molti ottimi vini” (many excellent wines), and the restaurant’s own tagline, “Là dove uomini & vini si incontrano” (where men and wines meet), underscores the importance of the cellar. This is a place where Italian and Lombardian cuisine is paired thoughtfully, making every meal an experience in flavour.
Da Giacomo holds a Michelin Recommended award, a reflection of its consistent execution and inviting atmosphere. The guide notes the restaurant’s successful mix of rusticity and design, its reinterpretation of local dishes, and its outstanding wine list. For anyone exploring the Cremona area, this is a destination that delivers on both substance and style.
