The story
Situated in the small village of San Donato in Poggio, between Florence and Siena, La Locanda di Pietracupa is a restaurant and bed & breakfast rooted in the landscape of the Chianti Classico region. The project was born from the vision of Massimiliano, Monica, Luca, and Franca—two brothers and two chefs who have built a precise identity around a love for tradition and a deep connection to the territory.
The cuisine here is a thoughtful interpretation of Tuscan tradition, driven by an attention to seasonality and local ingredients. Chefs Monica and Franca work with produce from the surrounding hills, creating dishes that are recognizable yet never static. The menu balances classic Tuscan flavors with a contemporary touch, focusing on the quality of raw materials without unnecessary embellishment. Guests can choose from an à la carte menu, a tasting menu, or a dedicated "Under 35" menu, which offers a refined introduction to the kitchen at an accessible price.
The restaurant’s setting enhances the experience. In warmer months, the panoramic terrace becomes a focal point, offering views over the borgo of San Donato in Poggio and the rolling Chianti vineyards—an ideal spot for an aperitivo before dinner. A winter garden provides a more intimate, light-filled space for cooler days.
This commitment to authentic, high-quality Tuscan cuisine has earned La Locanda di Pietracupa a place in the Michelin guide, where it is recognized as a Recommended restaurant. The award reflects the consistency and character of a kitchen that honors its roots while evolving with precision. For those exploring the Chianti wine region, this locanda offers a genuine taste of the territory, from the plate to the glass.
