The story
In 1951, Temistocle opened a restaurant on one of the most beautiful terraces on Ponza – a spot that once held a house for political exiles. Today, his family continues the tradition at Eea, a name that reaches back to the island’s ancient Greek origins. The restaurant sits in the port area, with a breathtaking panorama over the sea. That view, combined with a warm, unpretentious atmosphere, makes it a place where locals and travellers feel equally welcome.
The cooking here is simple in spirit but polished with contemporary techniques. “My grandmother’s kitchen memories with an eye to the future,” the team explains. Local catch defines the menu, supported by a nearby farmer. This commitment to honest sourcing and thoughtful preparation has earned Eea a Michelin Recommended distinction – a recognition that feels earned rather than pursued.
Antipasti like tempura zucchini flowers stuffed with burrata on zucchini-mint cream, or marinated anchovies with tomato bread and almond ricotta, show the kitchen’s light touch. The pasta section includes spaghetti with vongole and smoked sweet garlic, and fresh maccheroni with mollusk ragù and salted ricotta. Fish mains – such as amberjack filet in oil with puttanesca, or popcorn-crusted tuna with pepper-miso sauce – highlight the island’s bounty. A dedicated “aging” section offers carpaccio and seasoned fillets that reflect the kitchen’s precise technique.
Lunch and dinner are served on a terrace that lets the sea breeze and sunset light set the mood. The interior is cool, comfortable, and unfussy. Eea’s Mediterranean seafood cuisine respects tradition while feeling entirely of its time – a rare balance, and precisely what makes it a destination on Ponza.
