The story
Le Viste sits on a hillside above the beach that gives it its name – Spiaggia delle Viste – on the island of Elba, just outside Portoferraio. This Michelin-recommended restaurant is built around a simple idea: fish, handled with respect and a touch of originality.
The kitchen works firmly within the Mediterranean seafood tradition. But rather than replicating classics by rote, the team adds small, thoughtful touches of originality, always in service of the raw ingredient. The menu changes frequently, following the availability of the daily catch and seasonal local produce. What remains constant is the focus on quality – the fish dictates the dish, not the other way around.
The setting is integral to the experience. The restaurant is accessed via a pedestrian path that descends from a parking area above, making it a place you arrive at with intention. Once there, the views over the Tyrrhenian Sea are unobstructed, and the outdoor seating (tagged for its terrace) lets the coastal breeze become part of the meal. The journey by car involves navigating Portoferraio’s ZTL (limited traffic zone), but the restaurant provides clear, detailed instructions, and guests simply need to communicate their license plate upon arrival to pass through.
Le Viste is a destination restaurant in the truest sense – a place that rewards the effort of getting there with straightforward, well-executed Mediterranean and seafood cooking, rooted in the island’s traditions but not afraid to improvise.
