The story
Overlooking the lungomare in Portoscuso, Sa Musciara is a family-run restaurant that has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction for its straightforward, deeply flavorful seafood cuisine. The restaurant’s name and spirit are tied directly to the town’s historic tuna fishery, which dates back to the early 1800s. Sa Musciara was the boat of the Rais, the fishing chief, from which he could count the tuna entering the nets through a glass panel in the hull. Today, that heritage lives on in the kitchen.
The menu is built on simplicity and freshness, with a clear focus on the catch of the mare nostrum, especially tuna. Raw preparations like carpaccio di tonno e spada and tartare di tonno rosso sit alongside cooked classics such as tonno alla Portoscusese and grilled ventresca. The house specialty, the spaghetto Sa Musciara, is a signature dish that directly references the restaurant’s origins. Beyond tuna, the menu includes fregola ai frutti di mare, ravioli di cernia, and a grilled lombata di Manzo Sardo for those who prefer land over sea.
The setting is elegant and refined, with the option of outdoor seating on fine days, right by the water. The tone is one of genuine hospitality—cordiality and kindness are the ingredients the restaurant values most. Whether you come for lunch or dinner, the experience is anchored in the flavors of the Sardinian coast, prepared with respect for tradition and the quality of the ingredient.
