The story
Il Salotto in Rapallo is the gastronomic heart of Hotel Rosabianca, a refined space overlooking the Golfo del Tigullio. The restaurant describes itself as an “Atelier Gourmet & Cocktail”—a place where Executive Chef Luca Mastromattei reinterprets Ligurian tradition with creative touches and local ingredients. Homemade bread and marmalades, signature cocktails, and flavours that speak of the sea and the seasons define the menu. The cuisine is Mediterranean, seafood-focused, and deeply rooted in the territory.
Born in Pescara, Mastromattei grew up in his family’s restaurant, learning to handle seafood with respect and precision. He trained in France, Spain, and the United Kingdom, where he worked alongside chef Terry Laybourne and opened his own restaurant, Caffè Vivo, which earned a place in the Michelin Guide within eight months. A stint at a two-Michelin-starred kitchen in Marbella followed. Returning to Italy, he opened Pèscion on the Montesilvano seafront, also recognized by the Michelin Guide, and was inducted into the Ambasciatori del Gusto association.
Today, Mastromattei brings the same philosophy to Rapallo: attention to the supply chain, respect for raw ingredients, and a quiet, measured elegance. His dishes are built on traceable sourcing and uncompromising quality. The restaurant’s inclusion in the Michelin Guide (Recommended, 2026) reflects this approach—an award that speaks to the balance of regional identity, sustainability, and technique that defines Il Salotto.
Set directly on the Lungomare Vittorio Veneto, the restaurant occupies a historic Liberty-style building first opened in 1901. The atmosphere is discreet and refined, with outdoor seating available. The cocktail bar complements the dining experience, making Il Salotto a destination for both a full meal and an aperitivo by the sea.
