The story
Since 1967, Trattoria La Barca has been a fixture in Rho, bringing the bold, sun-drenched flavors of Puglia to the Milanese periphery. The restaurant’s name hints at its soul — a deep connection to the sea — and its cuisine is a confident, unpretentious celebration of Apulian seafood. The kitchen’s dedication to sourcing and technique has not gone unnoticed: Trattoria La Barca earned a Michelin recommendation, a nod to its consistent quality and respect for regional tradition.
The menu reads like a love letter to the Adriatic and Ionian coasts. Fresh pasta is made in-house daily, using eggs and durum wheat semolina. Alongside the homemade tagliolini and ravioli, the restaurant sources classic orecchiette from the D’Amicis pasta workshop in Foggia. A signature dish, the Risotto “La Barca,” has been on the menu since the very beginning — a seafood risotto that tells the story of the restaurant in every spoonful. Another highlight is the Gamberi alla “Franco,” a family recipe from “papà Franco” that has remained unchanged.
The kitchen’s respect for the raw ingredient is evident in the crudo selections — carpaccio of tuna, swordfish, and sea bass, alongside Mazara red prawns and oysters. The selection of fish changes daily, dictated by the morning’s catch at the market. For those seeking something rarer, the restaurant offers moeche — soft-shell crabs from the Venetian lagoon, available only for a short window each spring.
From the grill come whole sea bass or bream, and a mixed fry of calamari and prawns cooked in high-oleic sunflower oil. Heartier appetites can turn to the brasciole — traditional beef rolls from Bari, slow-cooked in a rich tomato sauce. Desserts, sorbets, and gelati are all made in-house, and the restaurant even produces its own panettone and colombe using natural yeast. The wine list is extensive, with a strong focus on the regions of Puglia, Trentino, Friuli, and Sicily, alongside a well-curated selection of French Champagnes and sweet passitos.
Trattoria La Barca is open for lunch and dinner, closed on Tuesdays. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with wheelchair access available. Diners with gluten intolerance can be accommodated with advance notice.
