The story
In the stone-and-marble village of San Giorgio di Valpolicella, one of Italy’s most beautiful borghi, the Dalla Rosa family has been running a restaurant and wine shop since 1853. The current incarnation, Trattoria Dalla Rosa Alda, sits at the foot of a Romanesque Pieve and offers a dining experience that is both deeply traditional and quietly refined.
The kitchen turns out Venetian cuisine that is “simple and precious,” anchored by ingredients sourced from the surrounding hills and valleys. The restaurant maintains its own organic vegetable garden, the Campo Boar, and draws on wild herbs, truffles and mushrooms from the Lessinia mountains, as well as local cherries and marasche. Pasta, including tagliatelle and pappardelle, is made fresh in-house daily.
The menu changes with the seasons, but typical dishes include gnocchi with pastisada de caval, bigoli with sardines, and the classic Valpolicella preparation of tagliatelle “Enbogonè.” Heartier second courses feature brasato all’Amarone with polenta and a roast guinea fowl. A seasonal menu, such as the cherry-focused offering, highlights the best of the local harvest.
The wine cellar, carved into the rock, is one of the most comprehensive in the region. The restaurant’s own selection, I Vignaioli delle Marogne, represents decades of relationships with the area’s top producers.
This commitment to quality and value earned Dalla Rosa Alda a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, a recognition of good cooking at a fair price. The atmosphere is warm and unhurried, with dining rooms that blend modern comfort with traditional stone and wood, plus a terrace for warmer months. It is a place rooted in its place—Valpolicella—and run by a family that has never left.
