The story
On the coast of Terrasini, just west of Palermo, Salotto sul Mare is chef Giuseppe Costa’s vision of a seaside living room. “A salotto suspended between sea and sky,” the restaurant’s own words describe it — a place where the energy of the Mediterranean meets the warmth of Sicilian hospitality.
The kitchen here focuses on Sicilian cuisine, working with local ingredients to create dishes that are simple, elegant, and light. The goal is to let the original flavour of each ingredient speak. The menu changes with the seasons, always anchored in the traditions of the island’s gastronomic heritage. This approach has earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand, awarded for good quality, good value cooking — a recognition that speaks to the consistency and sincerity of what Costa and his team do every day.
The atmosphere is informal but precise. The service protocol is drawn from Costa’s more formal Ristorante Il Bavaglino, adapted here for a relaxed setting that works from lunch through to the evening. There is outdoor seating for those who want to feel the breeze off the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the space is open all year round — in every season, with wind, rain, or summer sun.
The wine list is carefully curated, with a strong personality and a focus on what Sicily produces best, though it reaches beyond the island as well. “Given our passion for the land where we have our roots,” the restaurant says, the cellar is a dedicated space for exploring the best of Sicilian enology.
Salotto sul Mare is a bistrot that feels like a discovery: a place where the quality of the ingredients, the skill of the kitchen, and the setting come together without fuss. It is a genuine expression of contemporary Sicilian dining on the island’s northern coast.
