The story
Since 1997, Michele and Silvia have poured their passion into Osteria Il Cappello, a restaurant that has become a trusted reference in Trento. Located in the historic center near the 15th-century church of San Pietro, close to Buonconsiglio Castle and the Duomo, the restaurant occupies a building with a storied past—an osteria by the same name thrived here as early as 1414. Today, its Michelin Recommended status reflects the enduring quality of what they offer.
The kitchen is guided by two simple principles: freshness and seasonality. The menu is deliberately concise, with each dish prepared to order, ensuring flavors that are light, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Sourcing focuses on local products, yet the cuisine also draws on the aromas of the Mediterranean, creating a classic Italian repertoire that feels both rooted and vibrant.
The setting is as refined as the food. The restaurant unfolds over three levels, each with its own character. Downstairs, under ancient vaulted ceilings, candlelit dinners create an intimate, romantic mood. On the ground floor, an open kitchen energizes the space, perfect for business lunches or leisurely meals. A small mezzanine offers added privacy. In warmer months, the pedestrian piazza in front becomes a beautiful garden, ideal for family Sunday lunches or quiet evening dining away from traffic.
The wine cellar, with about 150 labels, gives special attention to Trentino Alto Adige, and a selection of wines by the glass is always available. Osteria Il Cappello is open every day except Sunday and Monday, with service from 12-2 PM and 7:30-10 PM. Takeaway is also offered.
