The story
For over 25 years, the Bettucchi family and chef Mattia Piffer have welcomed guests to Scrigno del Duomo, a restaurant and wine bar in the heart of Trento, on Piazza Duomo. The cuisine is a thoughtful reinterpretation of traditional Trentino dishes – a modern cuisine rooted in local ingredients and seasonality. The restaurant's recognition as Michelin Recommended speaks to its consistent quality and refined approach.
The setting itself is part of the experience. Housed in Casa Balduini, a historic building renovated in 1999, Scrigno del Duomo blends original architectural elements – a Roman wall, an ancient well structure, restored vaulted ceilings – with contemporary art and design. The venue spreads over two levels: a bistro and wine bar overlooking the square, and a more intimate lower-level dining room. Several private rooms, including the Beam Hall, Stucco Hall, and the Luigi Senesi Hall, accommodate everything from romantic dinners to business events.
Chef Piffer's menus, known as the "4 Treasures of the Treasure Chest," change with the seasons. Dishes range from potato tortel with Trentino cured meats and cheeses to raw tuna with burrata stracciatella, mango, and pistachios. First courses include spinach dumplings with datterino tomato sauce and mountain carbonara with leeks and bacon. The wine cellar holds over 450 labels – a carefully selected collection of Italian and international bottles that complements each course.
For a lighter visit, the restaurant is known for its long aperitif, served on the terrace overlooking the Fountain of Neptune and the Duomo, open from April to October. Whether for a full dinner or a glass of wine with a view, Scrigno del Duomo brings together tradition, creativity, and a welcoming atmosphere in one of Trento's most iconic locations.
