The story
On Viale Cesare Battisti in Treviglio, Marelet carries forward a name first heard in 1890, when a trattoria con alloggio opened on this spot. Today, that lineage has been reimagined as a “Locanda e Osteria Contemporanea,” housed in a building that bears little resemblance to its predecessor.
The original structure was demolished and rebuilt in 2015. The new Marelet is an eco-sustainable building — walls and ceilings prefabricated in wood, powered by geothermal energy and photovoltaics. It is a class A building, attentive to environmental impact and technologically advanced. The spirit of the old trattoria lives on, but the setting is unmistakably modern.
Marelet’s kitchen is equally dual-natured, described by the restaurant as a place where dishes inspired by the flavours of tradition sit alongside elaborate preparations using contemporary techniques. At the centre of it all is respect for quality ingredients. This approach earned the restaurant a place in the Michelin guide, recognised in the 2026 selection.
The rhythm of the day changes across three services. In the morning, from 7:00 until noon, the bar-pasticceria offers freshly baked croissants, veneziane, and high-quality pastries alongside expertly prepared coffee and cappuccino. Italian breakfasts come with fresh-squeezed citrus juices; international options include savoury preparations made to order, with attention to food intolerances.
At midday, the menu turns to quick, quality lunches — single dishes, daily specials, fresh gourmet salads, tapas, and a variety of sandwiches. Come evening, the offering deepens. Dinner is more articulated, moving between tradition and modern Italian cuisine, always centred on the raw materials.
From 18:00, the American bar takes over, offering aperitifs paired with bites designed by the kitchen, and a selection of signature cocktails to close the evening.
