The story
Since 2012, Al Petes has been a fixture in Cittavecchia, Trieste’s historic quarter. The restaurant occupies spacious interior rooms and, in summer, a terrace set among the houses of Cavana. It is a place where tradition and novelty meet – a philosophy that runs through every dish.
The restaurant is run by Andrea Sinico, Chef Marko Durdevic, and Giulia Sinico. Chef Durdevic and his brigade are known for their willingness to experiment, always with an eye on the quality of raw ingredients and the techniques used to prepare and cook them. Their approach has earned Al Petes a Michelin Recommended status, a recognition that speaks to the consistency and creativity of the kitchen.
The cuisine is international with a strong seafood accent, reflecting the restaurant’s location on the Adriatic. Al Petes offers a tasting menu – six courses for €75, described as “five savory dishes and a dessert tasting,” chosen directly by the chef. For those who prefer to choose, the à la carte list is equally compelling.
Starters include a raw orata with beetroot, wasabi, and grilled Belgian endive; a deer tartare with grilled asparagus and béarnaise sauce; and a shrimp and chicken donut with shellfish mayonnaise and mandarin gel. Among the primi, homemade ravioli stuffed with goat cheese in rabbit ragout with turnip greens sit alongside spaghetti with garlic, oil, chili, and oyster sauce. Secondi range from turbot stuffed with white asparagus and truffle to a grilled octopus with romesco sauce and potato terrine, as well as a pigeon with foie gras sauce and stuffed pepper.
Dinner is served Tuesday through Sunday, with lunch also available. The space is air-conditioned, and the summer terrace adds a relaxed, warm-weather option. Al Petes also offers catering and private event support, extending its approach beyond the restaurant walls.
