The restaurant’s journey from a local wine-and-tajùt spot to a Michelin Recommended destination reflects a deep respect for the region’s culinary heritage—and a willingness to push it forward.
Chefs Eddi Riotto and Antonio Mereu lead the kitchen, drawing inspiration from old recipes and the seasonal bounty of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Their menus trace the arc of tradition: a “Menu della Tradizione” sits alongside a “Menu Stagionale” and a vegan option, all built around ingredients sourced from small local producers. The result is a cuisine that is both grounded and inventive, where familiar flavors are elevated by modern techniques and artistic presentation.
The dining room itself strikes a balance between historic character and contemporary comfort. Original details remain, but the atmosphere is warm and unhurried—a place where you can take your time. The wine list, curated by sommelier Matteo, features over 250 labels, with a strong focus on the region’s finest producers, many of whom have long-standing relationships with the house. Wines are available by the glass or bottle, and pairings are tailored to each course.
While the kitchen is the star, the service is notably attentive without being intrusive. Hostaria alla Tavernetta is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. The restaurant will be closed from June 14 to 29, 2025, for summer holidays.
