The story
In the small comune of Mornago, just outside Varese, Alla Corte Lombarda occupies a carefully restored section of an ancient Lombard courtyard—the last square-plan farmhouse in the village. The space itself sets the tone: exposed wooden beams, stone walls, and a fireplace that burns through winter create an atmosphere that is both rustic and refined.
The restaurant is a family affair. In the kitchen, father and son Edoardo and Marco work side by side, while Loredana—who also handles the dining room—makes the bread and desserts. Their cooking is grounded in the region’s traditions yet open to evolution. As they describe it, this is “a cuisine of tradition always in motion,” one that blends old techniques with new ones, without taboos. The result is a modern take on Lombardian cuisine that respects its roots while staying curious.
Ingredients are chosen with care, sourced from local producers—fish from Lake Maggiore, meats from Piedmont, goat cheeses and honey from Varese—alongside herbs grown in their own garden. The menu changes with the seasons and the market, offering tasting paths like the Menu Scoperta del Territorio (€65) or the Carta Bianca, where the number of courses is up to the guest. À la carte options include dishes such as battuta of Fassona beef, ravioli with three meats in a shank sauce, and braised scottona cheek in red wine and grape must.
The wine list is chosen with equal passion, leaning toward small producers while also featuring established houses. The restaurant’s recognition in the Michelin guide reflects the consistency and care of this approach.
Alla Corte Lombarda is open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday, with reservations recommended.
