The story
In the heart of Verona’s historic Filippini quarter, Antica Trattoria Al Bersagliere has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its faithful, flavour-driven Italian cooking. The award recognises good quality, good value – and this trattoria delivers exactly that, plate after plate.
The kitchen stays rooted in the old traditions of Veronese and Italian cuisine, bringing them forward with freshness and care. Starters such as baccalà mantecato (whipped stockfish) or a tagliere of mixed salumi and local cheeses set a confident tone. Among the primi, the bigoli con anara – homemade thick spaghetti with duck sauce – is a regional classic, while risotto all’Amarone (for a minimum of two) showcases the local wine. The secondi list includes pastissada de caval, horsemeat slowly stewed with Amarone, and baccalà del bersagliere, stockfish prepared Vicenza-style. Grilled pata negra pluma and almond-crusted char offer further variety.
The wine cellar holds around 200 labels, mostly Italian, and the enoteca extends to beers, spirits, and olive oils. Diners sit in a room that also displays fossils millions of years old, alongside a Formula 1 steering wheel once used by Gilles Villeneuve and Carlos Reutemann’s race suit – curiosities that give the space character without overshadowing the food.
Al Bersagliere is a place where the flavours of Verona speak clearly, and the Bib Gourmand seal simply confirms what regulars already know.
