In the heart of Verona, just steps from the Arena and overlooking Castelvecchio, Trattoria I Masenini offers a dining experience that honors the past while looking firmly forward. The restaurant’s name is borrowed from a group of 19th-century Veronese carbonari known as the “Masenini,” who met in a nearby inn to plot for Italian independence. Today, that spirit of Italian pride continues on the plate.

The kitchen gathers recipes from Italy’s sea and land traditions, reimagining them in a contemporary key. The classic Milanese veal chop, for instance, is breaded in Japanese panko, while the bucatini all’Amatriciana feature house-made tomato sauce and artisanal Umbrian guanciale. The menu changes with the seasons, highlighting carefully selected ingredients that deliver authentic, genuine flavor.

The Spit is the Heart of the Kitchen

A signature technique here is spit-roasting, applied to meats, fish, and even vegetables. This method allows the exterior to develop a perfect Maillard reaction—crisp and flavorful—while the interior remains juicy, preserving the natural taste of each ingredient. A visible Molteni kitchen, one of the first ever made, anchors the space in the present. In warmer months, a flowering outdoor terrace welcomes guests. The restaurant also offers a pre-opera dinner service, opening its kitchen at 7:00 PM so guests can enjoy a full à la carte meal before heading to the Arena, just a short walk away.

The wine list features a rich selection of Italian labels and French Champagnes from artisanal vignerons. After dinner, the bar offers an extensive collection of whiskies, including rare bottles, along with rums, Calvados, Armagnac, Italian grappas, and gins.
