The story
In 1969, the four Zamboni siblings – Margherita, Alfredo, Giorgio, and Gaetano – transformed the rooms of a former canon school on the hill of Lapio into an osteria. What began as a place for a glass of wine and a game of cards gradually grew into a trattoria, cooking first meals and hosting the village’s wedding lunches. Today, Alfredo and Margherita carry on the project with determination, keeping the family spirit alive. The restaurant sits in the Colli Berici, a short drive from Vicenza, with a view over the countryside.
The menu at Trattoria da Zamboni is rooted in the Veneto’s classic cuisine, but you’ll find a “pizzico di innovazione” – a pinch of innovation – in the dishes. Starters include octopus on citrus salad, artichoke flan with fonduta, and prosciutto crudo Veneto DOP from Montagnana with house-made giardiniera. Among the primi, the fettuccine with black truffle from the Colli Berici and the tagliolini with scallops and white and green asparagus stand out. Secondi range from baccalà alla Vicentina with polenta to braised wild boar with red beer, grilled chicken, lamb chops, and a choice of local beef cuts. The house-made bread and grissini are included in the cover charge.
The quality and value of Trattoria da Zamboni’s cooking earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition the restaurant wears naturally. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, with a private dining room called “Lume di Candela” for special occasions. An interesting wine list complements the meal, and outdoor seating is available in warmer months. Whether for lunch or dinner, this is a place where the tradition of simple, flavourful Veneto food is served with genuine warmth.
