The story
Le Macine sits on its own island in the middle of the Meschio river in Vittorio Veneto. The water laps both sides of the garden, and the old mill wheel still turns. This is the backdrop for a restaurant that balances elegance with an easy, welcoming atmosphere – a place where the Casagrande family’s long tradition of hospitality meets the particular magic of an ancient mill.
The restaurant and adjoining hotel were born from a 2006 restoration led by brothers Adriano and Giuseppe Casagrande. They brought new life to the complex, preserving the original stone millstones that now greet guests at the entrance, and building a modern hotel from the early-20th-century part of the property. The style is refined but never stiff: sober, lively, and designed to put the focus on the table.
The kitchen delivers country cooking with a clear sense of place. The Michelin guide has recognised Le Macine with a Recommended rating for 2026, noting the restaurant’s ability to marry tradition with a contemporary touch. Dishes draw on the flavours of the Veneto region, prepared with care and presented without unnecessary fuss. The setting – an island oasis with a stone bridge, a small piazza, and the murmur of the river – makes every meal feel quietly special.
Le Macine is open for dinner, and also offers breakfast, catering, and private party options. In warmer months, outdoor seating lets diners enjoy the garden and the sound of the water. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, and there is parking on site. It is closed on Tuesdays.
