The story

Syn Fukuoka | Award-Winning French Dining Inspired by Global Travels

A shared foundation

Syn offers a refined French cuisine in central Fukuoka, drawing its name from synchronization, synesthesia, and symphony. Owner-Chef Naoto Ohno built this approach after training across New York, Chicago, Bologna, Peru, and Sweden, finally returning to his native prefecture to open the doors in 2023. Located on the fourth floor of the Ohori Garden complex, the space operates entirely by reservation to preserve an uninterrupted service flow.

Journeys on the plate

His French cooking translates those global stops into a fifteen-course tasting menu called Cuisine Voyages. Diners encounter a triple consommé clarified through jar steaming with four distinct bird bases, followed by a vegetable course that elevates rarely featured produce. The main protein arrives seared over binchotan charcoal, while trimmed portions transform into a fragrant Laotian larb served alongside the primary roast.

Sweet notes and quiet recognition

Pastry Chef Nami Ezaki closes the service with a dessert crafted from seasonal Japanese fruits and classical French patisserie technique. The dining room maintains a focused rhythm, allowing the food to speak without distraction. This steady commitment to direct sourcing and cross-cultural exchange earned the kitchen a 15.5 rating from Gault&Millau and consistent placement among regional top tables.
