The story
Ristorante Il Nodo in Kamakura serves a vegetable-focused Italian cuisine where organic produce consistently takes center stage. Chef Akinori Matsui developed this approach after mastering classical techniques at Sabatini in Aoyama. He visits Watanabe Farm and Komatsubo fishing port daily to select ingredients himself. Fresh fish fritters wrapped in kataifi alongside grilled carrots demonstrate how he lets raw materials drive the flavor profile.
The dining experience follows a chef-curated full course that shifts completely with the local harvest calendar. Each menu draws from approximately sixty varieties of seasonal produce sourced exclusively from Kanagawa prefecture partners. Summer tables feature sweet Ise lobster paired with garden vegetables, while autumn brings black abalone and regional mushrooms to the forefront of this Italian menu. Spring menus transition into delicate preparations using wild kelp, bamboo shoots, and young squid.
Located just four minutes from Kamakura station, the restaurant sits one quiet turn away from the bustling Komachi-dori shopping street. Only ten seats fill the room, creating a focused environment for guests who prefer calm over crowds. Returning diners regularly receive new compositions based on that day’s catch and harvest. This dedication to Italian cooking earned the establishment a 15.5 rating from Gault & Millau for 2026.
