The story
In the historic district of Naramachi, nakamuraya brings the authentic taste of Italy to Nara. The chef, who trained in Italy and holds a sommelier's certification, travels back each year to study the latest techniques and local flavors, ensuring every dish reflects genuine Italian traditions.
The restaurant operates in two styles: a wine bar and cafe, and a more formal restaurant space. Guests can choose a casual glass at the bar or a full tasting menu in the dining room, depending on the mood. Upstairs, a wine shop invites visitors to browse and purchase bottles to take home.
Because the chef is also a certified sommelier, the wine list is carefully considered. It features selections from Italy and France, including a glass of Barolo "Tre Utin" or a Franciacorta Brut. Each wine is paired with the appropriate glassware to enhance the experience.
The lunch and dinner menus change with the seasons. A recent Pranzo del Giorno course began with a grilled Pacific saury marinated with Shine Muscat grapes, followed by an octopus vapore and sopressata. The pasta course featured abalone and fresh herb fedelini with Sardinian bottarga, then a tortelloni filled with prosciutto and mascarpone mousse in a sage butter sauce. Main courses include a choice of wild fish acquapazza or a tagliata of Shiretoko beef with seasonal vegetables.
The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended award, a recognition that aligns with its commitment to precise, ingredient-driven cooking and a warm, knowledgeable welcome.
