The story
At agnel d'or in Osaka, Chef Akinari Fujita crafts a cuisine that bridges French tradition with a distinctly Japanese sensibility. The name itself—taken from a medieval French gold coin symbolizing peace and prosperity—reflects a philosophy of honoring the past while innovating for the future.
Chef Fujita’s path began in Osaka, where he trained at several local French restaurants before studying under Chef Kako at Kobe’s Anonyme. He then spent four and a half years in France, working in Normandy, the Basque Country, and Lyon, finishing as chef at the neo-bistro L’Archange in Lyon. Returning to Japan in 2013, he opened agnel d'or that August.
The restaurant offers omakase-style French courses: lunch menus of roughly six or eight dishes, and a dinner course of about ten. The cooking respects the cultural and historical foundations of French gastronomy, while the ingredients and presentation are rooted in Japan. Chef Fujita’s deep connection to Osaka—the city where he was born and raised—adds a layer of local memory and gratitude to every plate.
Located near Awaza Station in Nishi-ku, agnel d'or has earned a Michelin star for its high-quality cooking. The recognition underscores a kitchen that values precision, seasonality, and quiet hospitality. For those seeking French cuisine in Osaka that feels both authentic and personal, agnel d'or delivers a meal that is as thoughtful as it is accomplished.
