The story

Ayamedo: Bib Gourmand Soba in Osaka – Handcrafted Noodles & Unfiltered Sake

A Soba House with Purpose

Ayamedo, located a two-minute walk from Tanimachi Rokuchome Station in Osaka’s Chuo-ku, is a soba specialist that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant’s focus is clear: soba noodles and unfiltered raw sake (muroka nama genshu). The pairing is intentional—the clean, nutty flavor of freshly made soba is designed to complement the bold, lively character of unpasteurized sake.

The Experience

The dining room seats 22 guests in a casual, welcoming setting. Ayamedo is open for lunch from 11:30 until 14:30 (or until sold out) and for dinner from 17:30 to 20:30 (again, until sold out). The restaurant is closed on Sundays and the third Monday of each month. Children are welcome, and the dress code is casual.

What to Expect

The menu features a changing selection of soba dishes and drinks. The soba is made in-house, and the sake list highlights unfiltered options that are rarely found outside Japan. The kitchen works with seasonal ingredients, so the specific offerings vary. Given the Bib Gourmand recognition and the limited hours, arriving early is advised—especially for dinner, when the soba and sake pairing truly shines.
