The story

capi | Michelin-Starred Italian Dining in Osaka's Kitashinchi District

In the heart of Osaka’s Kitashinchi district, on the sixth floor of a quiet building, capi offers a dining experience built on a philosophy of resonance. Chef Taiki Ogawa, whose career spans the kitchens of Ramuna and Ponte Vecchio before opening his own restaurant in Takatsuki in 2012, moved capi to its current location in 2021. The name and the space are new, but the approach is deeply refined.

The concept is simple in ambition, complex in execution: to draw out the inherent beauty of each ingredient and let them harmonise into a single dish. Ogawa describes this as a “beautiful revolution” – an endless exploration of what can happen when one ingredient meets another. The result is a course menu, priced from ¥26,000, that changes with the seasons and the market. There are no a la carte options; the chef’s selection is the only path, and it is one taken with precision.

Dinner service operates with two simultaneous seatings, at 18:00 and 20:45, while Saturday lunch begins at noon. The atmosphere is intimate, centred on counter dining, where guests watch the kitchen work in silence and focus. The restaurant’s Michelin One Star recognition, awarded in 2026, acknowledges the high quality of cooking here – a quiet confirmation of what regulars already know.

capi is a restaurant that does not shout. The flavours speak instead, built from careful sourcing and a kitchen that trusts its ingredients to tell the story. It is a place for those who value the quiet power of a meal that has been thought through from first bite to last.
