The story
Hommachi Seimenjo Chukasobakobo is a dedicated ramen shop born from the legendary Hommachi Seimenjo, a katsuobushi (dried bonito flake) purveyor originally based in Osaka's Kuromon Market. The shop began as "Hommachi Seimenjo Abeno Wholesale Factory Chuka Soba Workshop" before relocating to its current spot in the Semba Center Building, directly at the exit of Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station. It opened in November 2020 and quickly became a local favorite for its focused, no-nonsense Japanese cuisine.
The menu centers on chuka soba—the Japanese interpretation of Chinese-style noodles. The signature "black" chuka soba features a deeply savory soy-based broth, enriched by the house's expertise in dried fish. In warmer months, a cold ramen appears, offering a refreshing contrast. The noodles are made in-house, reflecting the "seimenjo" (noodle-making factory) in the name.
The interior is compact and efficient, with 23 seats across a counter and tables. It's a place designed for solo diners and small groups alike—a quick, focused meal without fuss. Air conditioning keeps things comfortable year-round, and takeaway is available for those on the move.
In 2026, the shop earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that celebrates good quality, good value cooking. It's a fitting acknowledgement for a bowl that balances precision, tradition, and everyday affordability. In a city as ramen-rich as Osaka, this is a destination that stands apart.
