The story

Kitashinchi Gyosai Masashi: Michelin-Recommended Japanese Dining in Osaka

In Osaka’s Kitashinchi district, Kitashinchi Gyosai Masashi stands as a testament to the art of seasonal Japanese cooking. In 2026, the Michelin Guide recognized it as a Recommended restaurant, honoring the meticulous craftsmanship and warm hospitality that define the experience.

A Chef’s Vision Rooted in Tradition

Chef-owner Morita Masasaichi opened the restaurant in October 2017, drawing on years of training in the kappo and ryotei kitchens of Osaka’s Minami area. His approach is both respectful of tradition and open to innovation: “I build on what I learned, while constantly trying new ideas and techniques,” he says. Every dish is prepared with care, using the finest seasonal ingredients to let their natural flavors shine.

A Menu That Celebrates the Seasons

The kitchen offers a constantly evolving selection of over sixty dishes, ensuring there is always something new to discover. Highlights from the menu include an assorted sashimi platter of four to five seasonal fish (4,400 yen), grilled celery with a fragrant vinegar miso (770 yen), and richly flavored simmered nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch, 4,620 yen), also available grilled. For a warming touch, a small pot of softshell turtle (3,080 yen) is perfect for one, while the yurine mochi with yuba ankake (1,650 yen) showcases a delicate, plant-based refinement.

A Space for Connection

The restaurant’s motto is “food should be enjoyable and fun for both the eater and the maker.” The interior, centered around a counter and supplemented by tables, is designed to be a place where guests can dine casually with friends or unwind with colleagues after work. The landlady, a qualified sommelier and international sake sommelier, curates a thoughtful selection of wines and sakes that complement the cuisine, from cold and warm sake to sparkling wine and umeshu.

At Kitashinchi Gyosai Masashi, every detail—from the sourcing of ingredients to the atmosphere of the room—reflects a commitment to creating a genuinely satisfying dining experience.
