The story
In the heart of Osaka’s Kita-ku district, the celebrated restaurant Kitashinchi Koryu has been reborn as Koryu Keishin. The new name — 弧柳 継心 — carries the spirit of its predecessor while offering a more relaxed, accessible way to experience the kitchen’s refined Japanese cuisine. Located on the first floor of a building in Dojima, the restaurant replaces the original address with a fresh, counter-focused concept.
Koryu Keishin seats just twelve guests at a single counter, creating an intimate setting where the chef’s work is front and center. Unlike the omakase-only format of many high-end kaiseki houses, here the menu is a la carte, allowing diners to choose from the restaurant’s signature dishes. The starting price of ¥12,000 makes it possible to enjoy the same carefully sourced ingredients and precise techniques that defined the original Koryu, without committing to a full course.
The restaurant operates from 18:00 to 25:00 (last order at 24:00), and is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Air conditioning ensures comfort year-round, and private parties can be arranged.
In 2026, the Michelin Guide awarded Koryu Keishin a Recommended distinction, acknowledging the kitchen’s consistent quality and its role as a worthy successor to the Koryu legacy. For anyone seeking a direct, unfussy encounter with exceptional Japanese cooking in Osaka, this counter in Kita-ku is a compelling choice.
