The story

Le progrès, Osaka – Michelin-Recommended French Cuisine with Japanese Ingredients

A Name That Speaks of Forward Motion

Le progrès—French for “progress” or “advancement”—captures the restaurant’s guiding spirit. The kitchen values people, ingredients, and culture as equal partners on the plate, always looking ahead while honoring the present. This philosophy takes shape in French cuisine that adapts to Japan’s seasons and local tastes, using domestic produce and seafood with a straightforward aim: to let guests feel an honest, joyful “delicious.”

Tea as a Companion

A distinctive feature is the tea pairing program. Rather than offering only wine, Le progrès prepares a series of teas based on leaves from Wazuka, Kyoto’s largest tea-growing region. These are blended with spices and herbs, then served cold-brewed or over ice to match each course. It is an inclusive approach—designed so that non-drinkers and wine lovers can share the table without compromise.

Menus and Pairings

Lunch and dinner are served as set courses. The lunch menu offers three tiers—Short, Standard, and Special—while dinner presents Le progrès course and a Special option. A5-ranked Saga beef is available as a main-course upgrade. Wine pairing is offered in three- or six-glass flights (the three-glass option is lunch-only). The tea pairing requires advance reservation and includes five servings.

The restaurant’s thoughtful execution has earned it a Michelin recommendation, a quiet nod to its ability to blend French technique with Japanese ingredients in a way that feels both precise and unforced. Smart casual dress is requested, and children are welcome if they can sit through the full course.

In a city known for bold flavors, Le progrès takes a more measured path—one of steady, thoughtful refinement.
