The story
In the Nishitema district of Osaka, OIMATSU Tempura Suzuki is designed like a Japanese shrine – a space of quiet reverence where the craft of tempura takes center stage. Six counter seats offer a front-row view of the chef’s work, while a private table for four provides intimacy through a small window through which each piece of tempura is passed, preserving the immediacy of the counter experience.
Dinner is a fixed omakase affair. The Hana course (¥15,800) presents an appetizer, sashimi, a salad, roughly twelve tempura items, a meal, and dessert. The Tenpei course (¥20,000) expands to around fourteen tempura pieces, following the same structure. The menu changes daily based on market sourcing, ensuring the freshest seasonal seafood and vegetables are fried in a light, precise batter. Tempura, a classic Japanese technique, is elevated here through meticulous attention to temperature and timing.
In 2026, OIMATSU Tempura Suzuki earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, affirming its mastery within Osaka’s Japanese cuisine landscape. Whether seated at the counter watching the chef or in the private room receiving tempura through the window, guests experience the same dedication to quality – a thoughtful, unfussy approach that defines this tucked-away tempura restaurant.
