The story
RiVi is a name born from two Italian words: risata (laughter) and vita (life). Together, they form la vita con risate – a life with laughter. This philosophy sets the tone for the restaurant, where the aim is to create a joyful, memorable experience for every guest.
The team at RiVi sees cuisine as a repository of memory – a long story that began when humans first mastered fire and learned to cook. Their cooking respects ingredients, tools, and technique, drawing on the Japanese culture the chef grew up in while paying homage to Western culinary traditions. The result is a contemporary gastronomy that feels both grounded and inventive.
Warm, heartfelt hospitality – omotenashi – is central to the experience. The restaurant’s counter seating puts guests face-to-face with the kitchen, creating an intimate, unhurried atmosphere where the cooking becomes part of the conversation.
RiVi offers a single counter seating configuration, with no private rooms or partitions. Lunch courses are priced at ¥10,000 (tax included) and dinner courses at ¥19,000 (tax included). A wine pairing option starts at ¥4,000 (service charge and tax included), and there is a full wine list plus after-dinner drinks available. Guests are asked to arrive together, as service begins at a set time: 12:30 for lunch and 19:00 for dinner.
RiVi’s distinctive approach to contemporary cuisine in Osaka has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a nod to its thoughtful cooking and serene counter dining experience.
