In the quiet streets of Daikanyama, Arrocería Sal y Amor brings the traditions of Spain’s regional rice kitchens to Tokyo. The name, meaning “Salt and Love” in Spanish, reflects the restaurant’s philosophy: these are the two essential seasonings in cooking, and the team pours both into every dish.

This is an arrocería – a specialist in rice dishes. Think paella, but also rice cooked in clay pots or iron pans, and brothy, soupy versions that showcase the breadth of Spanish rice cooking. The menu goes beyond rice, too, offering tapas, meat and fish dishes that together paint a complete picture of Spain’s gastronomic culture.

The restaurant is run by V&K, the same group behind Ginza La Panza, which has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for eight consecutive years. The space seats 32 – a mix of tables and a counter – and is open for lunch on Fridays, weekends and holidays, and for dinner Tuesday through Sunday.
