The story

DAN – French Omakase in Tokyo's Daizawa, Michelin Recommended

A Hidden Counter for French Omakase in Tokyo

In a quiet corner of Daizawa, Setagaya, chef Yuki Takada runs DAN, a small French restaurant where the focus is on a single, seasonal omakase course. The kitchen is wrapped around a counter, offering guests a live view of the cooking – and a direct connection to the chef.

Takada spent a decade honing his craft at Hiramatsu group restaurants, including Maison Paul Bocuse and La Fête Hiramatsu. He then served as sous-chef at Omotesando's L’AS for three and a half years before opening DAN in autumn 2023. His cooking is an expression of that experience: precise French technique applied to ingredients chosen for their peak season.

The menu is a set omakase, changing with the calendar. Each course is built around what is best that week, from spring vegetables to autumn mushrooms. The wine list is curated by Takada himself, who holds a sommelier qualification, and leans toward small producers and Champagne.

The dining room seats only a handful of guests at the counter, and the private room offers a more secluded option. The atmosphere is quiet, unpretentious – the kind of place where the food and the conversation carry the evening. DAN received a Michelin Recommended status for 2026, a recognition that aligns with its reputation among Tokyo diners for thoughtful, ingredient-led French cuisine.

For those seeking a French omakase experience away from the city's busier tables, this is a restaurant that rewards a slow evening.
