The story
On Reisen Street in Kyoto, Hanhan (半々) is a reservation-only restaurant serving Japanese cuisine built around meat and vegetables. The chef, who trained extensively in the world of kaiseki, applies traditional Japanese culinary techniques to create a menu that changes with the seasons. The result is a course of ten to twelve dishes that highlights carefully selected wagyu and the best of each season's vegetables. Each visit brings a different composition, designed to feel both familiar and new.
The dining room seats just eight guests at tables, ensuring a private, unhurried atmosphere. The space blends sukiya-style carpentry with contemporary design, using warm wood and clean lines to create a setting that is refined but relaxed. Hanhan is well-suited for special occasions, from business entertaining to birthdays and anniversaries.
Recognised by the Michelin Guide with a Recommended distinction, the restaurant offers a single seasonal course priced at 20,000 yen, available for both lunch and dinner. The menu is subject to change, so each meal is a reflection of the moment.
