The story
In Tokyo’s Minami-Aoyama district, Haruka Murooka offers something rare: a full-course menu built entirely around dessert. Every plate is a sweet course, made with premium seasonal ingredients sourced directly from producers across Japan. Chef-owner Haruka Murooka, a restaurant pastry chef with 16 years of experience, prepares each dish at the counter, finishing it before your eyes. The restaurant seats just six, creating an intimate, unhurried atmosphere where the focus is entirely on the craft of patisserie.
Murooka began cooking at 23, joining Ginza CardenaS before training seriously as a pastry chef at Riviera Aoyama in 2008. She later became chef pâtissier at Ginza ristorante OTTO in 2019, then at Kaoru HIROO in 2021. In 2024, she opened her own place. Her dedication to dessert — using the best seasonal fruit and vegetables, paired with handmade tableware and cutlery from local artisans — earned the restaurant a Michelin Selected listing in 2025, followed by a Michelin Recommended award in the 2026 Tokyo guide.
The menu changes with the seasons. Murooka works with farmers to bring out the natural sweetness and texture of each ingredient. The restaurant operates by reservation only, with lunch and dinner seatings. Alongside the dine-in experience, Haruka Murooka also offers takeout: baked goods such as strawberry baked cheesecake, and custom birthday cakes, all made with the same attention to detail. It is a bakery, yes, but one that treats dessert as a serious, savory-level course.
