The story
Il Lupino Prime brings the vision of Wolfgang Zwiener, the renowned owner of a world-famous steakhouse, to Tokyo’s Minami Aoyama district. The restaurant inherits the reliability and quality standards of the Zwiener brand, using only ingredients personally approved by the man himself. It is an Italian restaurant that celebrates both prime cuts and authentic Italian tradition.
The space is designed for versatility. A main dining room, a VIP room, a bar area, and a terrace allow guests to choose the setting that suits their occasion – from business lunches to family celebrations, from intimate dinners to casual afternoons. The bar area, in particular, offers an open and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a seasonal afternoon tea or a pre-dinner drink.
The kitchen’s star is the Bistecca alla Fiorentina: a USDA Prime T‑bone steak. The USDA Prime grade represents the top 2% of beef in the United States, and here it is seared at high heat to deliver a thick, dynamic cut. Equally compelling is the Pappardelle al Tartufo – fresh, handmade pasta prepared daily in the restaurant. The wide ribbons are tossed with a rich sauce of porcini and truffle cream, and diners are encouraged to add extra shaved truffle. Seasonal courses, such as the limited‑edition Summer Course and the Tropical Afternoon Tea, offer a lighter, temporary taste of the kitchen’s creativity.
In 2023, Il Lupino Prime earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. This recognition reflects a wine list that is thoughtfully curated to complement the bold flavors of Italian cuisine and premium steaks. Whether you choose a bottle from the list or opt for a wine pairing, the selection enhances the meal without overshadowing the food.
The restaurant maintains a smart casual dress code – no tank tops, shorts, or beach sandals. The atmosphere is polished yet welcoming, suitable for a celebratory dinner or a focused business meeting. Service is attentive, and the kitchen’s dedication to quality is evident in every plate.
