The story
In the bustling Higashiikebukuro district of Toshima-ku, Japanese Ramen Gokan offers a concentrated take on ramen that has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand – an award that recognizes good-quality, good-value cooking in Tokyo. The shop’s approach is direct: guests order one noodle dish per person, purchase meal tickets from a vending machine, and pay in cash using thousand-yen bills (10,000 and 5,000 yen notes are not accepted).
The restaurant operates on a reservation system with a non-refundable ¥390 booking fee per person. Reservations open every Sunday to Wednesday at 10:00 for slots three days later. Guests are asked to arrive ten minutes before their scheduled time, and those wearing excessive perfume may be refused entry. Cancellations made within 24 hours incur a ¥2,000 per-person fee.
While the limited miso ramen has ended, the menu remains focused on Japanese ramen. The venue seats diners at a counter and offers takeaway. For questions, the shop directs guests to its Instagram account. Japanese Ramen Gokan keeps things simple, letting the quality of its bowls speak.
