The story

jeeten: Bib Gourmand Chinese Home Cooking in Tokyo's Shibuya

A Gentle Take on Chinese Home Cooking

In a quiet corner of Shibuya, just a minute's walk from Yoyogi-Uehara Station, jeeten offers a distinctive style of Chinese cuisine. Chef Yoshida, the restaurant's creator, draws on the principles of medicinal food (yakuzen) to build dishes that are both flavorful and kind to the body. The kitchen uses no chemical seasonings, allowing the natural taste of each ingredient to shine.

A Focus on Domestic and Seasonal Produce

The menu revolves around seasonal vegetables and ingredients sourced almost entirely from Japan. Chef Yoshida, who hails from Iwate Prefecture, champions produce from the Tohoku region—vegetables from Sumita Town, wood ear mushrooms and shiitake from Rikuzentakata City. This commitment to domestic ingredients gives the cooking a strong sense of place and season, and means the offerings change throughout the year.

Michelin Recognition and a Welcoming Space

jeeten’s honest, well-executed cooking earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, an award that recognizes good quality, good value meals. The restaurant seats just seventeen guests, with counter seating that lets you watch the kitchen at work. It's a comfortable, unpretentious setting for a dinner that feels both nourishing and refined.
