The story
The name L'Alchimia Astratta translates to “abstract alchemy.” The concept is Italian cuisine in harmony with the universe – amore Italian cooking that transcends mere flavor. Chef-owner Simpei Suzuki reads the individual colours of each guest, listens to the voices of the ingredients, and draws out the purest energy from invisible realms, creating a meal that resonates with the spirit of the moment.
Born in Yaizu in 1982, Suzuki began his career at Ristorante Sadler in Tokyo, then spent three years training in Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, and Florence. He worked as sous chef at the Michelin-starred Ca' Matilde, an agriturismo-locanda. His finely tuned sensitivity allows him to feel the energy of produce and people, charging diners with a sense of amore.
Lunch offers a choice of a lighter pasta lunch (Leggero, ¥2,800) or a full seasonal course (Corso Stagionale, ¥5,000) with antipasto, pasta, meat, and dolce. Dinner presents CorsoAstratta (¥10,000), a multi-course journey through amuse, antipasto, primo, secondo, and meat, plus a la carte options for returning guests. Wine pairings – 4 or 6 glasses – complement the meal, alongside craft beer and cocktails. The restaurant is counter-style, with air conditioning and private party options.
In September 2025, L'Alchimia Astratta was selected for the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2026, receiving a Recommended distinction. This honour reflects Suzuki’s deeply personal and intuitive approach to Italian cuisine in the quiet Okusawa neighbourhood of Setagaya.
