The story
On the old Yamate Road, in the serene Daikanyama neighborhood, Madame Toki occupies a quiet, standalone house. Behind the heavy mahogany door, the restaurant offers a setting that feels removed from the city’s pace, where the focus is on the food and the moment.
The kitchen is led by Chef Hisashi Takashima. A native of Yamagata Prefecture, his path to the stove began at 19. After training in Tokyo, he spent three and a half years in France, working in kitchens including the two-starred Auberge et Clos de Cimes and the three-starred Jardin des Sens. Returning to Japan, he served as chef at Petit Marché in Jiyugaoka and Harmonie in Nishiazabu before taking the helm at Madame Toki in 2008. His philosophy is direct: source safe, high-quality ingredients, cook them precisely, and make deliciousness the absolute condition for every plate.
The restaurant’s commitment to this refined French cuisine has earned it a place in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2026. This recognition speaks to the consistent, thoughtful cooking that defines the experience.
Madame Toki is a place for both lunch and dinner, and its private rooms and garden make it a popular choice for celebrations and events. The atmosphere is one of calm, unhurried hospitality—a space where you can truly settle in.
