The story
Chef Mitsuaki Okamura began his career at the acclaimed Trattoria Ke Pacchia in Azabujuban, where he was head chef from its opening. In 2020 he opened his own restaurant, Piatto Mitsu, in Fukuoka, then moved it to Azabujuban in May 2022. The restaurant now occupies the seventh floor of a quiet building in Motoazabu, steps from the lively Azabujuban district.
Piatto Mitsu is built around an intimate counter that seats a handful of guests. The format allows diners to watch each dish as it is finished and plated. The atmosphere is casual but precise – a place where the cooking speaks directly to the person across the counter. The menu is a course set, designed to showcase the kitchen’s interpretation of Italian cuisine.
Okamura describes his food as “authentic Italian that pursues the ultimate deliciousness while respecting traditional cooking methods and flavors.” The course changes with the seasons, drawing on market ingredients. Wine pairing is a natural part of the experience: the chef selects wines to accompany each course. Non-alcoholic wine is also available for those who prefer it.
In 2026 Piatto Mitsu received a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to the precision and sincerity of its cooking. For anyone seeking a focused, personal Italian dinner in Tokyo, this counter offers a quietly memorable evening.
