The story

SANTOSHAM Tokyo: Bib Gourmand South Indian Restaurant in Kanda Jimbocho

A taste of Kerala in the heart of Tokyo

In the curry-loving neighborhood of Kanda Jimbocho, SANTOSHAM stands apart. This is South Indian cooking, focused on the food of Kerala state. The name itself comes from the Malayalam word for "happiness" — a sentiment the kitchen carries into every dish.

SANTOSHAM serves Kerala's soul food: "meals" (set meals) and "tiffin" (light snacks). The menu is built around classics like appam, puttu, and a particularly deep selection of dosa. The Santōsha Meals and Masala Dosa are regular features, and the weekday lunch offers a rotating curry set. For dinner and weekend lunch, an à la carte menu opens up, including dishes like chicken stew and a variety of curries. Halal and vegetarian options are available.

The restaurant itself is compact, with a counter dining setup that brings you close to the action. Lunch service is walk-in only; dinner reservations are accepted and recommended.

SANTOSHAM has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for four consecutive years (2023–2026), a recognition that speaks to the quality and value of its South Indian cooking. It’s a place that rewards curiosity — whether you're new to the cuisine or a seasoned eater looking for the real thing.
