The story
Tucked away on a quiet backstreet in Asakusa, Shokudo Uyuki is a counter-only kaiseki restaurant run by a single chef. The name translates to “dining room” and the atmosphere is exactly that: intimate and unhurried, with just a handful of seats where every guest watches the cooking unfold.
Chef Yuki Kanazawa was born in Aomori Prefecture in 1982. He trained at local Japanese restaurants before moving to Tokyo at age 30, sharpening his skills at the acclaimed “Yoshiimura” in Itabashi. In July 2021, he opened Shokudo Uyuki, his own quiet space in a residential building a nine-minute walk from Asakusa Station.
The cooking is grounded in the seasons. Kanazawa works alone, selecting each day’s best ingredients and preparing them with the precision honed over decades. His philosophy is simple: let the natural flavours of seasonal produce speak, through careful technique and no shortcuts. The result is a series of dishes that feel both refined and comforting.
The restaurant’s recognition as Michelin Recommended for 2026 reflects the quiet excellence of what happens at the counter. It is not a place for spectacle, but for sincere, thoughtful Japanese cuisine served with genuine warmth.
