The story
Tempura Otsuka is a specialist tempura shop in Tokyo’s Taito-ku, recognized with a Michelin Recommended award in 2026. The restaurant focuses on authentic tempura with a light, airy texture. The batter is carefully prepared so that the fried pieces feel almost weightless, leaving no oily residue on the palate. This refined, clean style appeals to diners of all ages.
The owner selects fresh seafood daily, and the menu includes not only tempura but also sashimi courses made from the day’s catch. The special course (12,600 yen) features three kinds of sashimi, ten seasonal tempura items, a main dish, and dessert. Two other courses offer similar compositions at 11,500 yen and 10,000 yen, making the experience accessible.
The interior is warm and inviting, with light wood counter seating and soft lighting. Guests can watch the chef prepare each piece of tempura right in front of them, ensuring it arrives at the table piping hot. For those who prefer a table, there are also table seats available, and the restaurant welcomes children. The atmosphere is relaxed, suited for both everyday meals and special occasions.
Tempura Otsuka is open for dinner only: Wednesday to Friday from 18:00 to 20:50, and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 17:30 to 20:20. It is closed on Mondays and irregularly on Tuesdays. The restaurant is a short walk from Iriya Station on the Hibiya Line or Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express.
