The story
Perched on Monte de San Pedro in A Coruña, Taberna 5 Mares commands sweeping views of the Atlantic. The setting is relaxed yet refined, with outdoor seating that lets you feel the sea breeze. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and contemporary, a fitting backdrop for the kitchen's confident cooking.
The restaurant was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, a recognition for good quality, good value cooking. It was also featured as Bib Gourmand of the month in the Michelin guide, underscoring its appeal.
The menu evolves regularly, with off-menu specials often available. It is designed for sharing. Begin with "Aperitivos con vistas al Atlántico" – small bites such as a crispy buñuelo filled with seafood pâté, or a gilda of boquerón, anchovy, and piparra pepper. Then move to "Paisajes para compartir", larger plates meant for the table: grilled hake with a traditional gazpachuelo, Pacific scallops with miso butter, or braised oxtail with sweet potato cream. The cooking is contemporary Spanish, rooted in Galician produce but with creative touches.
For a complete experience, the "Menú Degustación 5 Mares" offers three aperitivos, five sharing plates, and a dessert for €40 per person. It is served to the whole table and is available for lunch orders until 15:00 and dinner orders until 22:00. The kitchen can adapt for allergies and dietary needs with advance notice.
Desserts are equally considered: a fermented orange with white chocolate and calamansi, or a classic lemon tart with meringue.
The wine list is extensive, with a strong focus on Spanish wines, particularly from Galicia. The staff are knowledgeable and happy to guide.
Taberna 5 Mares is a place to linger, to share plates, and to watch the sun set over the Atlantic. It is contemporary Spanish cooking at its most accessible and accomplished.
