The story
In the centre of Alicante, Distrikt41 is a place where the kitchen has no walls. The chefs prepare every dish in full view, whether you are seated at the bar or at a cosy table. The restaurant calls it “live fine dining” – a concept that has earned it a spot in the Michelin Recommended guide.
Distrikt41 opened in 2021, the result of a friendship that began years earlier when Danny and Joris worked together as private chefs at a ski resort. Danny brings more than two decades of restaurant experience and a deep knowledge of wine. Joris, who worked his way through several Michelin-starred kitchens, drives the creative side of the cooking. Together, they created a place that feels both ambitious and unpretentious.
The menu changes with the seasons. Guests choose between a six-course tasting menu (€84) or an eight-course option (€134), with dishes like corvina with sherry and coconut, Iberico with morel and celery root, or red mullet with arborio rice and bell pepper. A beverage pairing (€44) is available, built around small producers and wines that tell a story. The restaurant also offers a surprise lunch menu on Fridays and Saturdays, and a bi-monthly menu that rotates every two months.
Ingredients are carefully sourced. The team grows their own herbs and cresses, adding freshness to every plate. A custom-built 800 kg barbecue is used for certain dishes, but the cooking is not barbecue-focused – it is modern, playful, and rooted in technique.
The bar is the heart of the restaurant. Guests can watch the chefs work, ask questions, and feel the energy of the kitchen. The design is warm industrial, with a relaxed feel that guests often describe as “cosy” and “special but not stiff.” The service is professional but never pretentious.
Distrikt41 also hosts events: chef collaborations, champagne lunches, and winemaker dinners. The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday evenings, with lunch on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday is closed.
